New Delhi. India’s 18-year-old grandmaster Pragyananda has reached the finals of the FIDE World Cup. He achieved this position by defeating Fabiano Caruana. Since then, a picture of Pragyanand’s mother Nagalakshmi has been going viral on social media, in which she is seen smiling after her daughter’s win. His mother Nagalakshmi has played a major role in the level that Pragyanand has reached in chess today. Perhaps this is the reason why her mother is also making headlines on social media. Garry Kasparov also tweeted his congratulations to Pragyanand and his mother Nagalakshmi.
Pragyananda spent his whole life making a Grand Master
If you ask any of Pragyananda’s coaches or teammates, they will tell you that Mata Nagalakshmi has been instrumental in his becoming a grandmaster over 18 years. Nagalakshmi said in an old interview, “The arena or hall where Pragyananda participates in chess events is so quiet that I always fear that people will hear my heartbeat. I don’t make eye contact with my son during matches because I don’t want him to know that I know how he’s feeling. As a mother, I can tell when he is confident or when he is disappointed.”
Mata Nagalakshmi has been taking Pragyananda to chess tournaments for years. But, till now she doesn’t know about this game. Despite this, she said that she captures at a glance how her matches are going.
