Dhoni cut Rohit Sharma’s card from World Cup 2011 for this player

New Delhi. Who can forget the 2011 World Cup? Team India won the World Cup for the second time by performing brilliantly this year. There were more than one strong players present in this team, but the name of current captain Rohit Sharma was missing. Almost 12 years after World Cup 2011, former selector Raja Venkat has revealed this. He said that due to which Rohit Sharma did not get a place in the 2011 World Cup squad.
Raja Venkat, who was part of the Krishnamachari Srikanth-led selection panel, has made a sensational revelation that Rohit Sharma was not selected for the World Cup because of MS Dhoni. He claimed that Dhoni wanted Piyush Chawla in the World Cup squad.
During a conversation on RevSports, Raja said that the panel had first unanimously selected Rohit, but later the decision was reversed. He said, ‘When we were selecting the team for the World Cup, Rohit Sharma was in our plans.’
He continued, ‘Yashpal Sharma and I were on a tour of Africa with the Indian team. And three other selectors Srikanth, Surendra Bhave, Narendra Hirwani were in Chennai. When we were selecting the team, everyone accepted players from number one to 14. But when we suggested Rohit’s name for the 15th spot, the then coach Gary Kirsten initially agreed. But Dhoni wanted to include Piyush Chawla in the team. In such a situation, the coach also came in his support. He said, ‘I think this is a better option.’
