Shinde said, “My government is committed to give reservation to the Maratha community in the state. We will not sit silent until the community gets proper reservation.” He said, “Until the Maratha community gets reservation, the government schemes already implemented will continue and benefits will be given to the deserving people of the Maratha community. The reservation provided by the reservation to the Maratha community in jobs and education was struck down by the Supreme Court in May 2021 citing the upper limit of 50 per cent of the total reservation, among other grounds, by the state government.
An ongoing agitation demanding reservation for the Maratha community turned violent in Antarwali Sarti village of Jalna on Friday, injuring dozens of people, including police personnel. Police lathi-charged and fired tear gas shells to disperse the violent mob. Protesters reportedly prevented officers from taking a man on hunger strike to hospital. Officials said the police have registered cases against more than 360 people in connection with the violence.
Asked about Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s absence from the event, Shinde said, “Ajit Pawar informed me that he is ill. He is suffering from fever, while Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is in Ladakh to attend a military function.” He said there is no misunderstanding between the three and all are together as a good team.
