Naseeruddin Shah is always in the news regarding his professional life as well as his personal life. He married actress Ratna Pathak Shah in 1982. They have been married for 41 years and now years later Naseeruddin said that Ratna did not change her religion after marriage. Apart from this, he has expressed displeasure over the current political climate, due to which questions are being raised about his marriage.
Talked on wife’s religion
Naseeruddin wrote an open letter in which he talked about how some inappropriate questions were being raised on his marriage for so many years. He wrote, ‘I had no qualms about marrying a Hindu and neither did he with a Muslim. I never thought the partner of a former cabinet minister would do this, threaten me that no one told you when you married outside your religion. He accused me of love jihad and it is clear from his words that he wants to say that my time is up.
Mother asked once
Naseeruddin further said, ‘Till now our mother had discussed this topic only once in our house and when she also came to know that Ratna would not change her religion, she said, yes, how can religion be changed.’
Hindu-Muslim together for 40 years
Naseeruddin also said that my association with Ratna is proof that Hindus and Muslims can live together. So who are they who speak and question our relationship. Are the seeds of hatred sown at the time of partition slowly sprouting?’
Ratna’s family was against it
Earlier in an interview, Naseeruddin said that when he came to know that he and Ratna were dating each other, he thought that Naseeruddin must be taking drugs. Apart from this he did not think that Naseeruddin would marry Ratna as he was divorced earlier. However, Ratna fought with her family and did not let them lose their relationship.
