Students who have passed 12th standard without Biology subject can also take admission in MBBS and BDS courses by giving medical entrance exam NEET. According to the eligibility rules of NEET 2024, students who have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in Class 12th as main subject and have Biology or Biotechnology as additional subject can appear for medical entrance exam. Such students can fulfill their dream of becoming a doctor by taking admission in MBBS, BDS. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has said that this decision will also apply to students whose applications were rejected earlier.

The notice issued by the NMC said that after passing 12th students who have studied Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology along with English as additional subjects. Neat will be eligible to appear in the UG examination. They can take admission in MBBS and BDS by clearing NEET UG exam. National Medical Commission will issue eligibility certificate to these students. Based on that, these students will be considered eligible for admission to medical UG courses in foreign universities.

Earlier, 2 years regular study of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English subjects along with practicals in class 11th and 12th were mandatory to appear in NEET. These two years of study were to be completed in a regular school, not in an open school or a private one, according to the candidates. Also, after passing 12th standard, the study of Biology/Biotechnology as an additional subject could not be completed.

The decision to change the rules for issuing certificates for appearing in NEET UG and pursuing medical studies abroad in view of the new education policy was taken on June 14 after extensive deliberations.

Admission to MBBS, BDS, Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS), Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine is conducted across the country through NEET UG examination conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA). Courses like Medical and Surgery (BHMS).

IIT’s partner will provide free coaching for NEET and JEE Main, benefiting 11th and 12th standard students of the school.

Currently, there are 1.04 lakh MBBS seats available for admission in medical colleges across the country. In which there are 54000 seats in government medical colleges. BDS has more than 27800 seats. 52700 are in AYUSH courses and 603 are in Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry.

A record 20.87 lakh students had applied for NEET last year. This number was two lakh more than in 2022. NEET, the entrance exam for admission to medical colleges, carries a total of 720 marks. Out of which 360 marks are for Bio, 180 marks for Physics and 180 marks for Chemistry.
