Regarding the sale of tomatoes at subsidized rates, the secretary said that the government will continue to sell tomatoes at subsidized rates in selected states till retail prices normalize.

The government sells at Rs 40 per kg
Co-operative societies NCCF and Nafed have started selling tomatoes at a reduced rate of Rs 40 per kg from August 20 amid soft prices in the wholesale and retail markets. Since last month, the National Cooperative Consumer Federation of India (NCCF) and the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited (NAFED) have been selling tomatoes at subsidized rates on behalf of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs to curb the price hike of tomatoes. . Initially, the rate of subsidy was fixed at Rs 90 per kg. Later, as the price fell, its price also fell. Tomatoes have also been imported from Nepal to increase local supply and bring down prices.
