Virat Kohli overcame many obstacles during his illustrious career but the former India captain said on Monday that the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023 will present a new challenge that he is enjoying even after a decade and a half in international cricket. The World Cup will be held in India in October-November and Kohli said he is preparing for the challenge of playing the World Cup at home.

Kohli said during a promotional event in Bengaluru, “Whatever challenge is in front of you, you have to look forward to it. You will be excited when difficulties arise. You are not ashamed of it. Even after 15 years, I love competitions and World Cup 2023 is one of them (challenges). It excites me, I want something new that will take me to the next level.

Kohli did not deny that expectations will be on him and the team but reminded everyone that no one wants to win the World Cup more than the players. He said, “The pressure is always there. The fans always say that we (the team) want to win the World Cup. I would say they don’t want more from me. To be honest, I know people have expectations and feelings. But please know that no one wants to win more than the players.

Kohli knows what to do to win the World Cup. Under his leadership, India won the ICC Under-19 World Cup in 2008 and he was also part of the Indian team that won the 50-over World Cup at home in 2011 under Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

“The highlight of my career is winning the World Cup in 2011. I was 23 at the time and probably didn’t understand its significance. But now at the age of 34, after playing many more World Cups that we didn’t win, I understand the feelings of all the senior players (in 2011). So much so because it was his last World Cup. He had played several World Cups by then and winning it in his hometown Mumbai was very special for him. I mean, it was a dream come true.
