New Delhi. Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has talked a lot about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma not playing T20s ahead of ODI World Cup 2023. Kohli and Rohit have decided not to play the T20 format to prepare Team India for the ODI World Cup. Ashwin has supported the decision of both the Indian giants. Let it be known that Rohit and Virat are not playing T20 cricket after losing to England in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup last year. However, Rohit-Virat’s decision not to play in the T20 format was criticized after the Indian team’s defeat in the recent T20 series against the West Indies.
R Ashwin defended Virat-Rohit’s decision on his YouTube channel, saying, “50 to 20 overs is a completely different game. A player has to change his mindset completely. It’s a good decision by both of them not to play T20 and it’s good from the point of view of the ODI World Cup. Both will help prepare for the ODI World Cup.
Ashwin further said that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s decision to quit T20 was influenced by their skills and deep understanding of the game. “They are using their experience and want to focus on the 50-over World Cup, which is absolutely the right thing to do,” he said.
India has to play two big tournaments like Asia Cup and World Cup in next 2 months and the problem of Indian middle order is still not resolved. If KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are not fit, who will play in the middle order, this question is yet to be answered. Apart from Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson, India tried several players in the middle order. But, who could not fit in this role.
Will Ashwin be selected for the World Cup? Will this be a win or lose deal for Team India? know
Ashwin has expressed confidence in the team’s talent in the bowling department. That said, we have spin bowlers like Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav and a backup all-rounder in the form of Axar Patel. He said the Indian pace attack has a lot of depth with the presence of Mohammad Siraj, Mohammad Shami and Jasprit Bumrah.
