Savan Monday 2023: This time Sawan Mas is being celebrated for two months instead of one. 8 Mondays are in Shavan instead of 4 due to extra moon. Today, on August 21, the seventh Monday of Shavan is being fasted. But, the significance of this day is not limited to this as today is also Nag Panchami along with Savan Monday. Savan Monday and Nag Panchami are worshiped separately. According to Panchang, every year Nagapanchami is celebrated on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha of Shravan month. Snakes are worshiped on the auspicious occasion of Nag Panchami. Vasuki Nag is especially worshiped on this day because only Vasuki Nag is seated around the neck of Lord Shiva.
An auspicious time of worship
The auspicious time for worshiping Savan Monday and Nag Panchami is being told from 6.21 am to 8.53 am. On the other hand, according to myth, the best time is 9:31 am to 11:06 am. Pradosh Kal Muhurta will be from 5.27 to 8.27 this evening.
Savan Monday’s Method of Worship
According to belief, five dry fruits, fruits, Ganges water, pancha rasa, attar, gandha roli, incense, lamp, camphor, cotton, malaygiri, sandalwood, berries and bhang etc. can be included in the worship of Savan Monday.
To worship Lord Shiva (Shiva Puja), devotees wear clean clothes after an early morning bath. After this one goes to the Shiva temple and worships. Many devotees also perform Sawan Monday puja at home. All materials are offered to Lord Shiva in the puja. The Shivlinga is consecrated and then after performing the aarti of Bholenath, the bhog is offered and the prasad is distributed among all the devotees.
Nag Panchami Puja method
Snake shapes are made on either side of the main door of the house to worship Nag Panchami. An image of a serpent deity or a snake can be made from clay. After this the tarpan is offered with dhi, incense and water. Lamps, incense, garlands, paddy and flowers etc. are offered in the puja. Offering milk to a snake on this day is considered very auspicious. At the end the vrat katha is read and after performing aarti the puja is completed.
