Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said that huge steps have been taken in the defense sector in the last nine years to become self-reliant and most of the weapons used by the armed forces are indigenous. Underlining the importance of ‘self-reliance’, Rajnath Singh said, “Without self-reliance, we cannot decide independently on global issues in our national interests.”

Addressing a program organized by a private news channel, the Defense Minister said that self-reliance not only strengthens the economy but also increases employment opportunities.
Rajnath Singh said that in the last nine years, the defense sector has made significant progress towards achieving self-reliance and as a result of the efforts of the Union government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, most of the weapons used by the armed forces are manufactured. in India.
The Union Minister informed about the various steps taken by the government to achieve self-reliance in the defense sector.
The steps taken by the government include eight positive indigenization lists… Four lists are by the Department of Military Affairs for the armed forces which include 410 weapons and platforms for the armed forces, while the other four lists are by the Department of Defense Production which include 4,666 things.
Rajnath Singh asserted that the ‘New India’ is indigenously building aircraft carriers like INS Vikrant, light combat aircraft like Tejas and now the country is moving towards self-reliance in every sector.
Regarding India’s G-20 presidency, Singh said it reflects India’s growing stature in the international community.
