Police said all the accused are minors and were produced before the Child Welfare Committee. He said that these cases are being investigated. Taking cognizance of the matter, Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal has sent a notice to the police and school management for action. The party has claimed that the condition of government schools in the national capital has “deteriorated” under the rule of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
The 13-year-old eighth-grader alleged that during a summer camp in April, his classmates forcibly took him to a park and sexually assaulted him and threatened him not to tell anyone, officials said. He said that this scared the student and he did not tell anyone about it. According to officials, a few days ago the boys started harassing the student, so he informed his teachers about the whole incident. On this the teachers asked him not to tell anyone about this.
The student then informed his parents about the incident, and the parents then called the police control room and informed them, officials said. A case was registered on Sunday. The DCW said it received information about sexual harassment of two minors in a government school in Delhi. In a statement, the Delhi government said it is sad that such a heinous incident allegedly took place at a summer camp organized by the school.
“An inquiry committee has been constituted and a thorough investigation into the matter is underway,” the statement said. If any teacher or employee comes to know about this and does not inform the higher authorities, strict action will be taken against them. Prompt and strict action will be taken in this matter. We want to set the standard of education in the country which includes character development of students. Such acts will not be tolerated…”
The commission noted that a 13-year-old student of a government school in Rohini was allegedly sexually abused by other students of the school. The student has said that in April, he went to the school during a summer camp, where some students forcibly took him to a nearby park and sexually abused him for seven days.
The DCW said that the student alleged that the accused students even threatened him not to tell anyone about the incident. The student said he informed his two teachers about the incident a few days ago, but they asked not to register a case.
The commission noted that another 12-year-old student has alleged that she was also sexually abused by the same students.
According to the student, she was sexually assaulted in the school washroom during the summer camp, the DCW said. The accused students also threatened him not to tell anyone about the incident.
The commission said that according to the student, about 16 days ago, a student again tried to molest her in the washroom. The student claimed that he told two of his teachers about the incident in July and August, but they told him not to tell anyone about the incident.
She said the DCW has been informed that the boy’s parents came to know about the incident about six days ago. When the child’s mother went to school, the professor allegedly asked her not to talk about the incident with anyone.
Maliwal posted on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), “Two boys aged 12 and 13 were sexually assaulted by the same school boys in a government school in Shahabad dairy area. This is very disgusting and horrifying. Such criminal mentality among children. How is it being made? An FIR has been registered in this matter, notices are being issued to the police and school for further action. Our team is with the victim’s children and family.
BJP’s Delhi unit president Virendra Sachdeva said the Delhi government consistently claims to provide the best educational infrastructure and environment in schools for students “but the fact is that the condition of government schools has deteriorated under the Aam Aadmi Party government”. ”
When the teachers tried to cover up the crime, the victims lodged a complaint with the police, he said.
