Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government on Wednesday said a total of 111 people have died in natural calamities due to heavy rains in the state this year, while 45,650 families have been affected. He said that there has been a lot of rain this year due to which various areas of the state have suffered heavy losses. He said that the state government has made serious efforts to tackle the disaster. He said, “So far 45,650 families have been affected by the calamity, to which an amount of Rs 30.40 crore has been disbursed so far. Haridwar district was the most affected with 35,400 families to whom assistance worth Rs 18.97 crore has been disbursed so far.
He also said that damage assessment and survey work is going on in various disaster affected areas of the state. Agarwal said that Rs 301 crore has been given to the district magistrate to deal with the disaster. The minister said that one helicopter each in both the state’s divisions – Garhwal and Kumaon – has been deployed and 500 affected people have been safely evacuated from the disaster-hit areas.
Referring to the landslide-hit Joshimath, he said that so far 150 affected families have been given assistance worth Rs 33.50 crore, while 296 other affected families are staying in relief camps. He said that 1792 crore rupees was requested from the Government of India for Joshimath.
The minister also referred to the sewage treatment plant electrocution incident in Chamoli and said that the 16 deceased who died in the incident have been given Rs 5 lakh each while the Prime Minister has given them Rs 2 lakh. He said that based on the investigation conducted by the District Magistrate, apart from registering an FIR against the guilty companies, their guarantee of Rs 1.10 crore has been forfeited and they have been banned from doing any kind of work in Uttarakhand in the coming days. Earlier, opposition members including Leader of Opposition in the state assembly Yashpal Arya raised the issue of the tragedy and accused the state government of failing to act seriously.
