Sri Lanka Asia Cup 2023 Squad: Sri Lanka on Tuesday announced its 15-member squad for the Asia Cup 2023. Sri Lanka has been struggling with the problem of injured players these days, which is evident in its squad. Vanindu Hasaranga, Dusmantha Chamira, Dilshan Madushanka and Lahiru Kumara will miss the Asia Cup due to injuries. Meanwhile, Binura Fernando, Dushan Hemantha and Pramod Madushan have returned to the Sri Lankan squad. Wicket keeper batsman Kusal Perera has returned to the ODI team after two years.
The Sri Lankan Cricket Board said in a statement that Perera is currently recovering from the flu and will rejoin the team once he recovers. Sri Lanka’s star all-rounder Hasaranga is suffering from a hamstring strain. He had this problem during the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023. He was the highest run scorer and highest wicket taker in the LPL. Hemanta will replace Hasaranga in the Asia Cup. Fast bowler Chamira has a pectoral inch, while Madushanka was injured during a practice match last week and Kumara has a side strain.
Let it be known that Sri Lanka announced the team a day before the start of the tournament. The Asia Cup is going to start from Wednesday (30). Meanwhile, Sri Lanka will begin their campaign against Bangladesh on August 31. Sri Lanka’s captaincy is in the hands of all-rounder Dasun Shanaka. It was under Shanaka’s leadership that Sri Lanka won the Asia Cup trophy in 2022. Then Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by 23 runs in the final.
