Stock market surges for fourth straight day, Sensex surges 100 points

Stock market closing news today: On Wednesday, domestic bourses closed lower for the fourth consecutive trading session amid a strong trend in Asian markets. BSE’s 30-share benchmark index Sensex rose 100.26 points, or 0.15 percent, to close at 65,880.52 points in the last hour’s trading. It was down 292.23 points to 65,488.03 points at one point during trading.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) index Nifty also rose 36.15 points or 0.18 percent to close at 19,611.05 points. This was the fourth consecutive trading session of gains in local stock markets.

Among the Sensex companies, Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, Titan, ITC, Ultratech Cement, Sun Pharma, Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, Hindustan Unilever and Kotak Mahindra Bank were the major gainers.

On the other hand, shares of Tata Steel, Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank, NTPC and ICICI Bank fell.

In other Asian markets, Japan’s Nikkei, China’s Shanghai Composite and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng closed higher, while South Korea’s Kospi fell. Most European markets were trading with losses. American markets also closed lower on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, international oil benchmark Brent crude fell 0.70 percent to $89.41 per barrel. It crossed $90 per barrel for the first time in ten months, due to the decision by Saudi Arabia and Russia to continue cutting crude oil production until the end of the year.

Foreign institutional investors have continued to withdraw capital amid a rally in Indian markets. According to information received from stock exchanges, foreign investors on Tuesday invested Rs. 1,725.11 crore worth of shares were sold.
