India vs Iraq, 2023 Kings Cup Semi-Final: Indian football team missed out on reaching the final of Kings Cup 2023. India suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of Iraq in the semi-final match. The first match ended in a 2-2 draw. This was followed by a penalty shootout and the Indian team trailed by one goal. India scored four times, while Iran found the net five times.
This was the 700th match at the Chiang Mai Stadium in Thailand. In the semi-final match of the King’s Cup, there was a clash between India and Iraq. India’s regular captain in this match Sunil Chhetri Was not available as he had recently become a father. The competition between the two teams was tough. If we look at the history, India could not win a single match against Iraq and the same has happened this time too. India has lost 5 matches out of 7 and drawn two matches.

However, India was defeated in the semi-final match against Iraq in the King’s Cup. India put up a good fight, but were beaten by Iraq, who are 29 places above India in the FIFA rankings.
India attempted to score first in the penalty shoot-out as the match ended in a 2–2 draw, but the first attempt failed. Although the ball was put in the net four times in a row after this, Iraq on the other hand put the ball in the net five times and an early 1-0 lead ended at 5-4 and thus India faced defeat.
