Born on September 27, 1965, Sudha hails from Mumbai but her family originally hails from Vaylur in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. Sudha’s father K.D. Chandran was an actor and worked in USIS. Sudha did BA from Mithibai College, Mumbai and then MA in Economics.
A tragic accident that changes Sudha’s life forever
In 1981, Sudha met with an accident in Tamil Nadu and severely injured her leg. Sudha was only 16 years old at that time. During the treatment, the doctors came to know that Sudha’s right leg was affected by gangrene. The doctors advised to amputate his leg and amputated his leg. After this, Sudha stood on her feet again with the help of a prosthetic Jaipur foot.
After this tragic accident there came a time when Sudha took her own life. In an interview to ETimes, Sudha admitted, “I didn’t want to live after the accident.” However, his parents encouraged him. Gradually Sudha decided to struggle to realize her dreams. After a gap of two years, Sudha returned to dance and became a well-known performer. Apart from India, Sudha has performed in Saudi Arabia, USA, UK, Canada, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Yemen and Oman.
Acting Debut
Sudha made her acting debut with the Telugu film Mayuri (1985). The film was based on his life and was a success at the box office. After Mayuri, Sudha did several Tamil, Telugu films but they did not work at the box office. Due to continuous flops, Sudha was advised to quit the film industry.
There came a time in life when Sudha had no work. He was unemployed for 7 years. Meanwhile, Sudha married assistant director Ravi Dang in 1994. Although Sudha’s Tamil parents were against the marriage, they convinced the family members.
Sudha Chandran’s return and second innings
Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms offered Sudha the role of rich businesswoman Ramola Sikand in the series ‘Kahin Kisi Roj’ and it became a turning point in her life. The series and her character were very successful and people who advised her to quit the industry gave her the award for Best Actress in a Negative Role. Sudhan has also been impressively seen in series like Adalat, Naagin Franchise, Bepanah Pyaar, Ishq Mein Marjaavan and Bekabu.
