Based on his performance, Shubman will now be seen playing in Asia Cup and World Cup for the first time. But did you know that there was a time when his best friend became a wall in front of Gil.
After the T20 World Cup last year, many players were tried in the Indian team. The name of Shubman Gill and his best friend Ishaan Kishan were also in that list. On the one hand, Shubman Gill was struggling to prove himself on the Bangladesh tour. On the other hand, Ishan Kishan’s luck shone. Rohit Sharma was injured in the ODI and Ishan got the chance to open. Ishan Kishan snatched this opportunity by scoring a double century. After which Ishan Kishan was ahead of Shubman Gill in the opening race. But when captain Rohit Sharma and the coaches tried Gill as an opener, he showed incredible consistency.
Captain and coach gave me a chance – Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill has received the ODI Player of the Year award from CEAT. After winning the title, he said, ‘Even after Isha scored a double century, our captain and coach gave me a chance and supported me. I was lucky enough. Shubman Gill could not do anything special in the recent West Indies tour. But it remains to be seen how the young batsmen will fare in the Asia Cup.
Shubman Gill has scored centuries in all three formats. He also scored a double century against New Zealand earlier in the year.
