The former cricketer raised questions about the sore throat of India
Will the game changer get a chance at the World Cup?
New Delhi. Former India player Sanjay Manjrekar termed playing Suryakumar Yadav as ‘big greed’ and said on Sunday that the hosts will have to decide on the star batsman of T20 Internationals before the ODI World Cup. Suryakumar has made quite an impact in the T20 format but has failed to live up to expectations in the 50-over format and all eyes are on his selection in the squad ahead of the World Cup in India in October-November.
Reacting to ‘Star Sports’ about playing Suryakumar in the tournament, Manjrekar said, “If the batsman is in good form, most of the problems are solved.” India will no doubt consider Suryakumar Yadav as he has not been able to make the same impact in 50-over cricket but playing him when there are 15 to 17 overs left in the innings is very attractive and can turn the game. “India will have to decide whether they want to feed Suryakumar Yadav or not,” he said.

Manjrekar said that all-rounder Hardik Pandya will have to bowl a lot if India is to do well in this prestigious competition. He said, “Hardik Pandya’s form is a concern, his bowling because in the World Cup you have to work hard. You need him not just as a batsman but as an all-rounder, so he needs to bowl at least six to seven overs in every innings.
“When India won the World Cup in 2011, which happened because batsmen like Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh bowled, Hardik Pandya’s bowling will be very important,” Manjrekar said.
