The rupee gained 12 paise to 82.52 per dollar in early trade on Monday at the Interbank Foreign Exchange Market. On the positive trend in the Asian and domestic markets, the rupee strengthened.
Forex dealers said selling pressure from foreign investors kept the rupee trading in a range, while crude oil prices fell modestly.
The rupee opened at 82.58 in the interbank forex market and was later trading at 82.52, up 12 paise from its previous close. The rupee closed at 82.64 per dollar on Friday.
Meanwhile, the dollar index, which reflects the US dollar’s position against a basket of six major currencies, was trading at 104.07.
Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures were trading down 0.11 percent at $84.39 a barrel.
