Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden on Friday stressed the importance of the Quad Group in supporting a free, open, inclusive and resilient Indo-Pacific. A joint statement issued after bilateral talks between the two leaders also said that the Prime Minister looks forward to welcoming the US President to the next ‘Quad’ Leaders Summit to be hosted by India in 2024. The ‘Quad’ group includes India, America, Japan and Australia. The Quad is focusing on practical cooperation to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific against the backdrop of China’s growing military aggression in the region.

A joint statement was issued after extensive talks between Modi and Biden to further the economic and people-to-people ties between the two countries, in which Prime Minister Modi said that the friendship between the two countries plays an important role in moving forward at the global level. This is President Biden’s first visit to India as US President. Earlier, former US President Donald Trump visited India in February 2020.
“Modi and US President Biden reiterated the importance of the ‘Quad’ to support a free, open, inclusive and resilient Indo-Pacific,” the statement said.
It said India supported the US decision to join the Indo-Pacific Ocean Initiative (IPOI) in June 2023 and also welcomed the decision to co-lead the ‘Indo-Pacific Ocean Initiative Pillar’ on trade connectivity and maritime transport.
Sharing the view that global governance should be more inclusive and representative, Biden also reaffirmed his support for reform of the UN Security Council of which India is a permanent member, the statement said. Also, in this context, he once again welcomed India’s claim for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for 2028-29.
Pursuant to this, the two leaders also underlined the need to strengthen and reform the multilateral system so that it better reflects contemporary realities and committed to comprehensive reform of the United Nations Security Council by expanding the permanent and temporary categories of membership. agenda of
