Johannesburg. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in South Africa to attend the BRICS summit. Upon his arrival, a group of expatriate Indians living here will show him 3D pictures of the Swami Narayan Temple under construction in Johannesburg. This under construction temple is expected to be completed by 2025. Africa and Southern Hemisphere when ready ,It will be the largest Hindu temple in the hemisphere).
The temple, built on 14.5 acres of land, will have a 34,000 square meter cultural centre, a 3000-seat auditorium, a 2000-seat banquet hall, a research institute, classrooms, exhibition and entertainment centers and other facilities. Naresh Ramtar, a member of Savubo’s Modiji Swagat Committee, said, “Prime Minister Modi will first meet community members from Johannesburg and surrounding areas. After this, they will be shown a 3-D model of the new Swami Narayan Temple.
PM Modi will participate in the BRICS summit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for a four-day visit to South Africa and Greece on August 22 morning. In South Africa, PM Modi will attend the 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg from August 22-24 at the invitation of the country’s President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa. This will be the first in-person BRICS summit after three consecutive years of virtual meetings due to the Covid-19 pandemic. BRICS is a group of world economies consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
Modi is keen to have a bilateral meeting
PM Modi said he is looking forward to a bilateral meeting with some of the leaders present in Johannesburg. BRICS is working on an agenda of stronger cooperation in various sectors. “We believe that BRICS has become a platform to discuss and deliberate on issues of concern to the entire Global South, including the imperatives of development and reform of the multilateral system,” PM Modi said in a pre-departure statement.
PM Modi’s third visit to South Africa
This will be PM Modi’s third visit to South Africa and the visit marks the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and South Africa. BRICS is chaired by South Africa this year. The theme of this year’s summit is: “BRICS and Africa: Partnership for Mutually Accelerated Growth, Sustainable Development and Inclusive Multilateralism.”
