India’s young archer Aditi Gopichand Swamy created history by winning the gold medal at the World Archery Championship 2023. She defeated Mexico’s Andrea Becerra in the compound women’s final of the World Archery Championships earlier this month. 17-year-old Aditi is the first player from India to win an individual gold medal in the event.
Speaking to ANI on Tuesday, 17-year-old Aditi said on her historic achievement, “I am very happy because before this (World Archery Championship) India did not have a medal. I had a chance to bring home that gold medal as an individual and as a team. I never expected to do so well in the World Archery Championships. I am very happy and wish to continue this performance in future.
He said, “Our gold medal came as a team on the first day itself. So I was a little lenient. There was no pressure on me. So there was a lot of support for that. It was not that if he came now, he should leave. I took it positively and performed well personally. After winning the gold, I spoke at home. Everyone was watching the match. Talked to my coach and talked to the archers who were there. Not much celebrated, only celebrated among our people.
At the same time, Aditi said after winning the gold that it was only to win the first gold for India and nothing else was coming to mind. I knew he was very experienced and someone I followed. I just focused on my archery and everything else fell into place. I’m so proud, I wanted to hear 52 seconds of the national anthem played at the World Championships. This is just the beginning.
