New Delhi. After being selected in the Indian ODI squad for the Asia Cup for the first time, young batsman Tilak Verma on Tuesday said he hopes to continue his form in List A cricket in the One Day Internationals. Left-handed batsman Verma made his debut for India in T20 Internationals on the tour of West Indies earlier this month. He is the youngest player in the 17-member Indian squad for the Asia Cup starting August 30.

Verma has scored runs at an effective average of 56.18 in 25 matches in List A cricket. He has scored five centuries and as many half-centuries during this period. Verma said in a video interview, “I am really confident about playing ODI cricket. I have done well in List A cricket for my state and I have also done well in the Under-19 (level). I am confident that I will be able to perform well in ODIs.

He said, “I never dreamed that I would make my ODI debut directly in the Asia Cup. I have always dreamed of playing ODIs for India. This is a big deal for me.” The Mumbai Indians player said, “It was my dream to represent the national team in ODIs within a year of making India’s T20 debut. I got a chance to play for the country in the T20 and then I got a call for the Asia Cup. I am just preparing for it.

Verma said that Indian and Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma always supported him during the IPL. He said, “Rohit bhai has always supported me. He himself used to come to me when I was playing in the IPL. I was a bit nervous in IPL initially but he advised me to enjoy the game and said that I can approach him whenever I need any help.
