When the first part of the film came out in the year 2012, it shook the hearts and minds of the people. After this, the second part of the film was released in August of the same year. A total of 25 songs were included in both the successful parts of the film. The film was a craze then, even today the same craze is seen among those who watch the film on OTT and YouTube. Both films starred Manoj Bajpayee, Piyush Mishra, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Pankaj Tripathi, Richa Chadha and Huma Qureshi in lead roles.
Actually the slaughterhouse scene was shot in a slaughterhouse in Prayagraj. Sultan Qureshi played by Pankaj Tripathi is the story of a fearsome butcher, who at the age of 12 can kill and skin a buffalo in a single day. Let us tell you that this scene was developed after seeing a boy doing this in real life. In the film, Sardar, Khan’s son Perpendicular and his friend are seen watching the 2003 film Munnabhai MBBS. Nawaz, who played the role of Perpendicular, was an unknown actor at the time and was also seen briefly in Sanjay Dutt’s Munnabhai.
Along with Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Manoj Bajpayee, Huma Qureshi’s character in Gangs of Wasseypur was also loved by the fans. But you will be surprised to know that Huma Qureshi’s character was not included in the initial script of the film. Later, Anurag Kashyap changed the script and introduced the character of Mohsina, played brilliantly by Huma Qureshi in the film.
Gangs of Wasseypur is considered a milestone in the careers of only Anurag Kashyap and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Instead, the film managed to create tremendous recognition internationally as well. Gangs of Wasseypur premiered on 22 May 2012 at the 65th Cannes Film Festival. It was the first Hindi language film of that time to achieve this feat.
