Indian fast bowler Umesh Yadav has signed a contract with Division One English county side Essex for the remainder of the 2023 Championship season. With three matches left in the season, he will replace injured New Zealand fast bowler Doug Bracewell, making him the second active overseas player to join the team this season after South Africa’s Simon Harmer.
This will be Umesh’s second county season. He played for Middlesex in Division Two last season, taking four wickets. But after three matches he could not play further due to injury. Umesh will be in the running for Essex’s playing XI in the remaining matches against Middlesex, Hampshire and Northamptonshire.
“I am delighted to join Essex and look forward to making a significant contribution to the team’s success,” Umesh said in a media release issued by the club. He said, “I enjoyed playing for Middlesex last season. And it will be a good comeback. It will be good to test yourself playing in this position again.
Umesh has played 57 Tests, 75 ODIs and nine T20 Internationals for India, taking 288 international wickets. He last played for India in the ICC World Test Championship final against Australia at the Oval two months ago.
