New York. Two people were killed when a speeding car crashed into them at a US-Canada checkpoint on Wednesday. The incident took place on the bridge connecting New York and Ontario in Niagara Falls. The car suddenly exploded, people rushed to the spot seeing clouds of smoke. Some are even giving it a terrorism angle. However, New York Governor Cathy Hochul has clarified that it was an accident and not terrorist activity. The US-Canada crossing was closed after the accident.
The accident happened at a major Rainbow Bridge crossing near Niagara Falls. The explosion was so powerful that nothing was left of the vehicle except the engine, which was completely burnt to ashes. Authorities on both sides of the border have stepped up security. A video posted by US Customs and Border Protection shows a car speeding away. The car crashed into a checkpoint barrier and burst into flames. The White House said President Joe Biden has been notified and is monitoring it. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also told parliament, “This is clearly a very serious situation.”
Just arrived from the scene of this horrific incident at the Rainbow Bridge. There is no evidence of terrorism at this time.
Thank you to our first responders for keeping drivers and residents safe on this busy travel day. Will continue to update on any developments. https://t.co/nNGFPHm0bm

According to Mike Guenther, a Canadian visiting America, the speeding car went airborne after the crash, just like in the movies. It was flying at a speed of over 100 miles per hour. After this a terrible fire broke out and there was smoke everywhere. After the incident, its debris was spread in 14 lanes. US Customs and Border Protection said three other nearby border crossings were closed after the incident, but have since reopened.
