Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has made a big prediction regarding Asia Cup 2023. He believes India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will prove dangerous in the Asia Cup as any team can win on their day. Akram recalled that last time many people were predicting an India-Pakistan final in the Asia Cup but Sri Lanka came back from a bad start to win the title.
Asia Cup 2023 will start from August 30 and the final will be played on September 17. The tournament will be played in Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Pakistan will enter the competition as the No. 1 ODI team after losing 3-0 to Afghanistan. However, Wasim Akram believes that the tag of favorites cannot be given to any particular team. There is a match between India and Pakistan on September 2.
Wasim Akram, speaking at a sponsor event for the tournament, said, “Last time we predicted an India vs Pakistan final, but Sri Lanka won the competition. All three teams are dangerous. Anyone can win on their day. Other teams are also competing. Last time Sri Lanka won the tournament. While winning the title, India also failed to enter the final.” Pakistan lost to Sri Lanka in the final.
Sourav Ganguly picks India’s playing XI for Asia Cup 2023, leaves out these players
He continued, “India vs Pakistan is very important, we know there is a lot of support (the teams get), so many eyes, so many people (following), but there are other teams to play here so you Sri Lanka or Bangladesh cannot be ignored. The 57-year-old added that the fitness of the bowlers will be tested in the Asia Cup as most of them are used to bowling four overs in T20Is.
Akram said, “Whether it’s India or Pakistan or Sri Lanka, we’ll know if the bowlers are able to bowl 10 overs, nowadays they’re all used to bowling four overs (per game). It’s a long tournament – it’s not like once you get one Can win games and get into the semi-finals. You have to win more matches to reach the top. It’s not T20 (this time) but a 50-over competition, which means there will be a different mindset and fitness. It’s necessary.”
