Asia Cup: India beat Nepal by 10 wickets to book Super-4 berth
Captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill both scored fifties for India
New Delhi. After defeating Nepal by 10 wickets, India have confirmed their place in the Super-4 round of the Asia Cup. The match was also interrupted by rain and India later set a target of 145 runs in 23 overs, which the opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill achieved without losing a wicket with 17 balls to spare. With this, India has reached Super-4 from Group-A after Pakistan. However, even after this win, Rohit Sharma seemed unhappy with the team’s performance and listed two major shortcomings.
In the match against Nepal, India dropped three catches in the first few overs. Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan dropped very easy catches and after the match Rohit expressed his anger at Team India’s poor fielding.
Rohit said, “Will try to do well in Super-4. After losing 4 wickets in the first match against Pakistan, the way Hardik and Ishan Kishan batted was brilliant. Our bowling was good in today’s match but we could have done better. But the fielding was bad and because of that we can’t even play the World Cup or the Asia Cup. This cannot be accepted. We have to improve it.”
Not very happy with my innings: Rohit
When Rohit was asked if he was happy with his innings, he said no, initially I was a bit nervous. Once my eyes were set, I wanted to bat till the end. Regarding the flick sweep, he said that I did not play this shot deliberately. I wanted to play the ball at short fine leg but the ball went a bit away after hitting the bat.
‘There’s still a lot of work to be done’
When asked about the World Cup squad, he said, “When we came here, we knew who would be our 15 players for the World Cup? The Asia Cup was not going to give us a better picture as we only had two matches in the group stage. But fortunately we got a chance to bat and bowl against Nepal in the first match. There is still a lot of work to be done. “A lot of players are coming back from injury and they need time to get back into rhythm.”
