Former Indian captain and batting great Sunil Gavaskar on Monday advised Team India that fast bowlers should be cricket fit rather than gym fit. Gavaskar said this after announcing the Indian team for Asia Cup 2023. Let us tell you that fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and famous Krishna have been included in the Asian team. Bumrah and Krishna have recently made a comeback after being injured for several months. Both are currently playing T20 series against Ireland. Bumrah and Krishna had to leave the field due to stress fractures.
Gavaskar says that the injuries India’s bowlers are battling are probably due to lifting weights in the gym. Gavaskar told India Today that if you look at all these injuries, they happen when you try to lose weight. I’m no expert and I could be wrong but I think he’s trying to lift more than he should. Earlier bowlers did not have such back injuries.
Besides Bumrah-Krishna, batsman KA Rahul and Shreyas Iyer He has also returned to the Indian team after recovering from the injury. While fielding in IPL 2023, Iyer was having frequent back problems while Rahul was injured. Gavaskar said, “I believe cricket fitness is more important. I think Ajit Agarkar, as the chief selector, will be able to shed light on the fact that the bio-mechanics experts are currently doing in the franchise.”
Gavaskar further said, “You have to be cricket fit. It’s not about how many miles you run on the treadmill, it’s about how many miles you run with the ball.” The Indian team will begin their campaign in the Asia Cup on September 2. India will face Pakistan in the first match.
