New Delhi. Actor Jeetendra, known as ‘Jumping Jack’ in Bollywood, may be far from the world of acting today, but once he used to write history with his films. His 1971 film ‘Caravan’ broke many records. The film sold more tickets than Sholay. But there came a time in his life when he decided to become a filmmaker. However, this proved to be the wrong decision of his life.
Jitendra has acted in more than 200 films in his film career. More than 100 of his films proved to be superhits. But there was a time when this actor could not give a single hit film. Alam had become such that he used to buy all the tickets himself to keep his films in theatres. It has ruled the industry for many years. But when he decided to make films, he got considerable success in some films. But one film ruined him badly. It was only after the failure of that film that Jeetendra vowed not to do films.
This is how the idea of becoming a film maker came

It was only when he saw the film Mere Mehboob that he made up his mind that he would definitely work with him in a film whenever he became an actor. After this, when Jitendra made his mark in the industry, he also thought about film production. This was the time when Jeetendra became a hit machine in the industry and decided to become a film maker and created a banner with his brother.
While Jitendra found it difficult to become a film maker
He founded his banner Tirupati Films. His brother Prasanna Kapoor made several films under this banner which also proved to be successful. But when Jeetendra made up his mind that he wanted to invest in a film like Mere Mehboob, it turned out to be the biggest mistake of his life. For this he also spoke to Rawail and the work on the film was started. The name of the film was ‘Deedar_e_yaar’. This is a love story in which Jitendra, Rishi Kapoor, Rekha Ashok Kumar were seen in important roles.
Dreams are shattered like this
When Jeetendra was making this film, he had every hope that his film would prove to be a superhit. Even looking at his stardom, he was confident that the film would be a hit at the box office. A police presence was also arranged outside the theatre. Overall a lot of money was spent on the film. In other cities too, police personnel were deployed outside theatres. But no one came to watch the film on the first day of its release. Instead of queues of spectators, only policemen were visible there. Seeing this shattered Jeetendra’s dreams and Deedar-E-Yaar proved to be a flop.
Let us tell you that in the 80s-90s, the audience became fans of superstar Jeetendra’s films. But he clearly rejected this film from his company. However, the actor had high expectations from this film. But all the money he spent on this film was drowned like water. Heartbroken, the actor vowed after the film that he would never film again.
