Whenever the movie Sholay is mentioned, Gabbar’s character comes to mind as much as Jai Veeru. Gabbar’s character was very dangerous and powerful. But do you remember the scene in Sholay when Gabbar kills Rahim’s uncle’s son Ahmed? It would have made anyone laugh. But you will be surprised to know that the hair growing scene was re-filmed. In fact, the censor board removed the scene from the film considering it too violent and harsh. Similarly, when Thakur kills Gabbar, censor board scissors were used on him too and the scene was reshot.
Amjad Khan was not the first choice for the role of ‘Gabbar’
Even today, Gabbar’s dialogues are more on people’s lips than the story of the film. Seeing Amjad Khan in Kabar makes it seem like the character was made just for him. But you will also be surprised to know that Ramesh Sippy’s first choice for the role of Gabbar Singh was not Amjad Khan. Ramesh Sippy was to cast Danny Denzongappa for the role of Gabbar. But for some reasons things did not materialize, so Amjad Khan was cast for the role of Gabbar and it became the memorable role of his life.
