England’s rising star batsman Harry Brooke has not been named in the starting squad for the ODI World Cup 2023. Ben Stokes’ return leaves Brook out. Let us tell you that Stokes has taken a U-turn from ODI retirement and will be seen rocking in the upcoming World Cup. Limited-overs captain Jos Buttler and the England team management wanted to help Stokes defend the title. Stokes played an important role in England winning the World Cup in the year 2019 under the command of Eoin Morgan.
Many fans, pundits and former players were surprised when Brook was left out of the starting lineup. Meanwhile, Butler recently reassured the 24-year-old Brooke that the door to the World Cup is not completely closed for him as there is still time to announce the final squad and anything can happen. However, World Cup-winning captain and former veteran Morgan says something that could break Brook’s heart. Morgan believes the World Cup squad door may not open for Brook.
Morgan told Sky Sports that good teams with a lot of talent and mainly a lot of success sometimes miss out on good players. When I look at the teams selected, I don’t see Harry Brook getting a place in the team. In fact, another player has been added to the middle order with the return of Ben Stokes. Without his bowling, if someone goes down in the top order, you need a top order player as a perfect replacement.

Apart from this, Morgan also gave his opinion on the importance of bowling attack. He explained how the need for an extra spinner would be met by an extra batsman. He said, “You need two seamers and an extra spinner for which he has cover but an extra batsman in between, I can’t fit Harry Brook.”
Notably, Butler said, “There’s still plenty of time for the players to get on the plane, so we’ll wait and see what happens.” We all know Harry is a great player and we have seen what he can do recently. Not that this is surprising. We know how powerful a player he is. It was unfortunate not to find a place in the team at present. Things changed a bit with the return of Ben Stokes and his availability as a batsman. Ben is a great player. In such a situation it is really a difficult decision to make a choice.
