The 17-member Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2023 was announced on Monday. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar announced the squad in a press conference. Captain Rohit Sharma was also present with Agarkar in the press conference. While fans are happy with the return of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, the dismissal of veteran leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has surprised many. Three spinners – Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Akshar Patel have been included in the Indian squad. Chahal has now broken his silence on not being selected for the Asia Cup.
Chahal shared an inspirational message on social media platform X (Twitter), in which he hoped to make a comeback. Chahal shared this message in the form of an emoji, in which the sun is hiding behind the clouds on one side and the sun is shining on the other. Akshar is preferred over Chahal because he bats as well as bowls. On dropping Chahal, Agarkar said that we only need one wrist spinner as Ravindra Jadeja is the other spinner in the team. Chahal may not have made the Asia Cup squad, but the door is open for him in the World Cup 2023 squad. “Doors are not closed for other players including Yuzvendra Chahal, R Ashwin and Washington Sundar for the World Cup,” Rohit told a press conference.
